Identity Theft Is More Than An Inconvenience

Identity theft is one of the most potentially destructive crimes. It isn’t simply a matter of inconvenience for the victim or an incident of loss for a few defrauded multi-million dollar companies. Its effects are far more significant and severe.

Identity theft can turn people’s lives completely upside down. They may lose chances at certain jobs. They may be denied a loan or be forced to pay a higher rate to borrow money as a result of the crime. They may end up spending hours and hours over months and months dealing with scores of companies as they try to explain away debts for which they aren’t responsible while wondering if they’ll ever be able to regain their good name.

Small and large businesses alike also suffer. There is cost in handling the problems, services that may have been rendered with no hope of payment and a host of other concerns.

And, the effects are even more far-reaching. The most dangerous elements in society can steal a good name and render themselves virtually invisible from law enforcement. Terrorists and other known criminals have relied upon identity theft as part of their horrible schemes. It is time to get serious about identity theft! All of us must find ways to protect ourselves from the crime and should also have the tools at our disposal to handle matters if we are ever victimized.
